Mermaid Monday!

I've decided to start a blog special! I love fantasies and fairy tales--and the mermaid is a unique make-believe creature that inspires amazing nail art! So I am going to start doing Mermaid Mondays! Some will be nail art or patterns, others will just be a mermaid inspired color. I may not be able to do one every Monday, but I will certainly do my best!

So, without further ado, the very first Mermaid Monday! Today's design is inspired by mermaid scales. The grey is sleek and underwater-ly (if that's a word); and the green is the mermaid's tail. (Polish and technique after pictures).

For the base I used OPI Mermaid's Tears. Over the ring finger, I layered on China Glaze Hook And Line. For the scales I used Zoya Opal. Opal just gave it a glittery look, and that wasn't exactly how I wanted it; so I covered them in Essie Matte About You. I think the matte really makes the manicure. It makes them look much less glittery, and more like actual sacles. They definitely still catch the sunlight; but there's a hint of mystery--much like a mermaid.

Color Me Loud

Sorry this isn't extremely nail related, but I'm very excited about this!
Tonight my college has a year end student led concert that they have every year. This year's theme is color me loud. And since the theme is color, of course I'm wearing a black and white striped dress. I did my nails a simple matte white with black accent finger, and then black with a matte white accent (hardly picture worthy). But the shine and the matte really contrast nicely!

I was going to do paint splatter nails (COLOR ME LOUD), but I ran out of time =(

And just so you can get a taste of how awesome tonight is going to be; here are the preview videos.

The Poppy-razzi isn't the only collection coming out from Essie! The next collection for summer is coming out June 1st! All Tied Up seems a little dark for summer, but I think it looks amazing--kind of a sunset color, or something sweet, which is definitely summer!

Magic!

These pictures do them so much injustice...It was so wonderful, but the camera just couldn't capture it. It's really bad. But I hope they are not  that bad--I did my very best. They don't even look that matte...but they are.
But my nails really do look magical! I did a layer of Zoya Opal over OPI Planks A Lot and the matte-ified it with Essie Matte About You. Magic--I mean MAGIC. It looks like fairies, it looks like flutters, it looks like scales, it looks like magic! (I know I've said that a lot, and I hate to be repetitively redundant, but thus are adjectives--there's only one word to describe certain things). The Opal wants to glitter, but the matte stops it. Just like fairy mischief. I am juts in love with this! From some angels you just see the purple, and then you turn your hand and there is where the magic falls!
The pictures all just made me so sad with how they looked...No justice. If you have these colors, try for yourself! Indulge in the splendor! It looks so much different in person! I included a picture with some nails tipped, so you can see where the magic hides. there is more of a muted iridescence in real life that just doesn't show.
I am a fan of all things fairytales, so this manicure agrees with me. =) Love!

OPI Planks A Lot

None of these pictures do this polish justice, or accurately show the color... I tried and tried to take a picture that showed the color, but alas...
This color is so beautiful. It's much more purple in person than these pictures show. It's a creamy periwinkle purple. It has almost a subtle iridescence to it, like your nails are just twinged with a little bit of magic. It's so subtle and soft, but the glow is unmistakably there. We have Mermaid's Tears in the Pirates collection (one of my all time favorite collections), this should be Mermaid's Kiss. It's just magical. you can't see an of the magic in the picture, but believe me, it's there.

China Glaze Holiday Joy 2012 Collection

The image is a bit... well... Hallmark. But... yeah, it's strange. Not something I would've seen China Glaze doing.  But it's the colors we want, not the ads. All the glitters, especially Champagne Kisses, are just calling to me...

New Images For The OPI Germany Fall 2012 Collection!

Yay, more pictures! Not just the little picture of the bottles we've seen everywhere!

New China Glaze Halloween 2012 Wicked Collection

I find the images a little bit creepy, but the polish looks great! I'm excited for Bizarre Blurple!

Left to Right: Cast A Spell, Immortal, Bizarre Blurple, Glitter Goblin, Roguish Red, and Make A Spectacle.

New Fall 2012 China Glaze Bohemian Collection

The theme from China Glaze for fall is: Bohemian! How exciting! When I think "Bohemian" I think patchwork-esque cremes, but metallic-luster is good too. All of these colors are just jumping out to me; but in the bottle, I have to go with Deviantly Daring.

Unpredicatable

Rare And Radiant

Swanky Silk

 No Plain Jane

I Want My Bawdy

Deviantly Daring

Tropical Fire Gradient

The weather just turned cold here, which is is not nice at all. So I wanted to spice it up with some very warm nails. This was an easy sponge gradient.

For the Orange I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Sun Kissed. (<--The formula for this polish is crap, by the way.It was thick and streaky. I don't know if it's this polish or Xtreme wear...) And for the red OPI Chick Flick Cherry.

Nail Polish Colors According to a Man

As women, we like our nail polish to have fun names. I love OPI's Mermaid's Tears, Bastille My Heart, or What's With The Cattitude? partly for their names. But my boyfriend does not agree. He says that those are non-descriptive and have nothing to do with the color. I think they're great names, and he does not. He said that nail polish colors should be like crayola colors: fun, but descriptive.
He asked what the color on my nails was called. When I said "Riveting," he said that was no good. He said it should be Electric Fire Pumpkin Jelly.
So there you have it. Nail polish names should be very descriptive. You know, if there was a such thing as electric fire pumpkin jelly, it would probably look a lot like Riveting... maybe he's on to something!

China Glaze Riveting Really Is "Fire In Flight"

My favorite color in the Hunger Games Collection--maybe even in all of China Glaze--is Riveting. It's just magical! I am in love with this color! The original name was Fire in Flight and I can definitely see why. It's like fire on your nails. It applies like a dream, and it just looks so great.

It completely represents the flaming Mockingjay.

This is a souvenir cup I got at the theater.

"Baroque" Effie Trinket Reaping Nails "I just...love that!"

I just...love that! That's one of my favorite things Effie says in the movie. That line runs through my head whenever I think of her nails--because I do love them!
Ever since I saw the first Hunger Games trailer I was very intrigued by Effie's nails. I've been wanting to do them for a while, even before the many Effie nails began to appear. I didn't have the right shade of fuchsia I wanted (I still don't), but I wanted to go ahead anyway. I'm very particular about matching colors, but I like the way these colors look. My friend told me they reminded her of Beauty and the Beast; and I have no problem with that--I love Beauty and the Beast. Since I used a slightly darker color than Effie had, I can see where she was going--it has a baroque-ish feel to it.

There's a lot of pictures, but it was so hard to capture the look of it; these pictures don't even do it complete justice. In person the nails looks more fuchsia, which is the color Effie had. Sorry there's so much residue outside the nail. Believe me, I tried to touch it up, but this polish was behaving very badly. The remover was just smearing the polish around and making it worse, so I gave up. =/

One with flash.

The flash made the background so dark! It was just amazing!

Indoors

It looked good from afar. It's very hard to tell, but the distance made the colors blend and made it very appealing.
It's amazing what flash can do! =O

Now that all the pictures are done, on to the polish! I used OPI Bastille My Heart and Sponged on China Glaze Passion.

The inspiration herself:

When I get the right color fuchsia (I've been on the lookout) I will re-create and post again!
